I had a little lightbulb moment yesterday. As I was walking down the street, I realized that what I was wearing over my outfit (my coat, scarf) was completely different than what I was wearing under it (shirt, necklace). It's no secret that the outerwear we choose is just as if not more important than our base layer, especially this time of year, but I realized that the coats we wear can communicate something else entirely to the world when we're walking down the street.

Another opportunity to communicate. Another opportunity to get dressed. Sweet.

And, as I made my way around NYC yesterday, it became glaringly obvious to me that people have a lot to say via their outerwear choices. Maybe it's the temperate weather we're having lately, but I was the minority in my puffy coat, and felt a pull to run into the nearest store and grab a neutral, boxy wool overcoat.

My eyes and brain thanked the lovely people of the streets of New York for leaving their puffy, black, bundled winter looks at home, and it made me want to hunt down some pretty options for you all:
