moodboard :: fall uniform

Seeing as how the weather dropped into the 50's overnight (you know it's chilly when Charlie decides to burrow under the covers), I thought it was high time for a Fall moodboard. It's been forever since I've done one, and that is just silly. Do enjoy this outfit which I'd like to live in for the next 2 months: 9_21_15_fall_uniform

All I want to do is mix and match patterns this fall, which will be easy because, as is evidenced above, they are everywhere (as are 70's tributes). Frame denim is killing it (and killing me). Should you splurge on one piece this fall, let it be one of their blouses or cropped flares. You know what else is everywhere? Suede. And fringe. Love this clutch, which could easily be a wallet or makeup bag. And I never thought I'd say this, but all I want to do is wear heels. These DVF pumps have been on my radar for months, but I also love the idea of pairing boots with cropped denim.

Happy Monday, indeed.

your vacation.

Friends, I haven't done a moodboard in almost a month. Gasp! Truth be told, life is happening. Wedding plans are occurring, trips are taking place, Bisou Sessions is 2 weeks away, etc. That's a lot of excitement. Almost makes me want to take a trip: 7_28_15_intrepid_gal

// sweater // tee // shorts // bag // sneakers //

Today's mood board was inspired by that tiny little Miu Miu bag. I immediately pictured myself stuffing it with my credit cards, phone, passport, and let's be honest, some Xanax, and jetting out of my hotel room and onto the streets of some European city. You need a plain white silk tee for summer, especially for traveling, because it goes from day to night so effortlessly. Printed shorts replace cargo pants and anything that screams AMERICAN APPROACHING. If you invest in nothing else this year, let it be a a cashmere sweater. Thank me later.

K.I.S.S.

And a very good morning to you! Hope your weekend was lovely - ours definitely was. I had my bridal hair trial which turned out perfect, spent QT with all 3 of my nephews, then capped off the weekend by hanging with our good friends Kevin and Cara at the Warwick Valley Winery (which I highly recommend). When we got home last night, we spent a good couple of hours in front of Netflix's new season of Orange is the New Black, and now here we are! Sometimes my sense of style needs a little palate cleanser - perhaps I've spent the weekend trying too hard, or I just feel like I need a little refresh. Yesterday, that was definitely the case. As we were getting dressed for the winery, I must have put together 10 different outfits, all of which I vetoed. I just wasn't feeling like myself. So, I headed to the back of my closet and ended up wearing a bunch of pieces I've had for years, and I felt great.

Now, I can't quite come to your houses and rifle through your things to find a palate cleansing outfit (actually, I can, just email me) right now, so I thought I'd show you an outfit that is giving me life and inspiration this morning:

// the perfect white tee // long necklace // the comfiest pants // statement makers //

When you have a piece that is the outfit, let the rest of what you wear be easy and simple. These shoes are everything - we could pair them with a funky dress, an all denim outfit, a jumpsuit, hot pants, you name it, there are a million ways to go. But! Nothing is as easy on the eyes to me as keeping the outfit so simple. UGH! You are so COOL! By the way, here's a less expensive shoe option, and another cute necklace option...JIC.

what to wear to the office: the actress

Why is it that blogs only mention work wear as it applies to those 9-5ers? Incidentally, in my circle of friends I have only a handful of 9-5ers, and none of them work in an environment where they have a strict corporate dress code. There are oh so many jobs / careers / activities that pay the bills, it's only fair that we consider outfits for all of them. Today let's talk about the actress. Here in NYC, she's probably running to and from auditions in midtown, maybe she has a leotard underneath her clothes. I imagine her in uber comfy yet stylish slacks, a button down (easy on, easy off), and of course, flats.

If you're an actress, what's your go-to outfit?

dark days of summer

Good morning, lovelies! How about this weather, huh? Yesterday around 3pm the skies opened up and we essentially had torrential downpour and thunderstorms well into the middle of the night. Crazy as it was, though, it felt necessary; we slept with the window cracked last night, and I'm hoping that the rain dampened some of the pollen (fingers crossed). As you might imagine, I'm more of an Autumn fan when it comes to seasons. I like to say that it's the combination of having next to no melanin in my skin as well as a deep seeded, hereditary need to avoid sun exposure due to my Irish heritage. Either way, I definitely resist "sun's out, guns out" for fear of blinding my fellow woman and potentially winding up with a bad sunburn. But the truth is, it's hot out, and at some point, shorts, skirts and dresses need to make a cameo.

In New York, we tend to strip down when it gets warm out - ladies lay out in Central Park, nary a body of water in sight, in their bikinis. That's all well and good, but when it comes to warm weather dressing, I like to ease into it. Where do I get my inspiration? Los Angeles, specifically on the backs of celebrities.

Maybe it's the fact that they walk from an air conditioned Cadillac Escalade straight into an air conditioned building, but these LA folks seem to have warm weather dressing down. Let's investigate:

So moody! So layered! Okay, so, I'm sure that not all of those pictures were taken in Los Angeles, but nevertheless, there's a certain amount of covering up despite the weather, and I dig it so hard. So here's what I'm imagining as the New York lady's take on LA street style:

I don't know if I've EVER been more excited about a sweatshirt/ter in my LIFE. Cheese forever.
