picture of the week

JuliaBushePhotography-37 Hi friends! Popping in real quickly to show you the main link on my mind this week...this.

Absolutely obsessed is an understatement. I have listened to this T Swift mashup / cover about 300 times since I discovered it yesterday. Give it a listen and tell me you're not into it- I dare you!

I'm off early this morning to hang with two talented ladies, Julia and Ashley! Spoiler alert: at least one of them brought her camera, so it should be a blast. After that I've got a low-key weekend planned (I have to pay a BUNCH of bills). What are you up to??

See you folks Monday!

xoxo,

style philosophy

Morning, friends! I hope your weekend was fantastic. I'm still in CT at my parents' house; I was too tired to drive home last night and it feels so good to wake up and see green everywhere. I just took Charlie outside and the sun was peeking through the leaves and I could hear only the sounds of the burbs. Can you tell I'm in love?? The past few weeks have been busy in the best way, and I've been finding myself mentioning the same things to clients over and over - which got me thinking about my philosophy of dress. Here are the 3 issues I hear most from clients, and I've outlined my advice here for you guys!

1. "Does it match?" Don't worry about it. I always tell clients that everything matches. While that's not exactly true, it helps get the idea across that anything can work if you think about it the right way. Black and blue, silver and gold, plaid with florals- these looks are all over the internet (along with other non-matchy looks) and are awesome if you gather the gusto to rock them.

2. "I don't know how to wear this." Play dress up! No, seriously. Reserve all judgement about your appearance and start to pair everything and anything with the piece in question. After a while, you may come across something that works (a belt,  different shoes, pants, no pants, etc). Just go with it - take it to date night or out with friends! The worst thing that could happen is that you decide you need to revisit your closet.

3. "I never wear that, but I love it." I always ask my client - have you worn this in the past month? Have you worn this in the past year? If the answer is no, you may want to consider selling it or donating it. I know as well as anyone that holding onto pieces I don't wear does nothing except take up room in my closet!

What do you guys think of my advice? What's your style philosophy? xoxo

copy cat: alexa chung

Are you all as smitten with Alexa Chung's style as I am? Aside from her natural beauty, there's something about her effortless style that is just perfection. It's rocker chic meets hipster meets feminine. Tomorrow's the 4th, and I could show you a nice red, white and blue mood board of things to wear and picnic supplies, etc,  which would be awesome, but it's what every other blog out there is doing today, so I thought I'd mix it up. Here's what I would wear for the 4th if I could:

So lovely! Now here's the look for less:

summer dresses

When it comes to Fall and Winter, I've got my style philosophy down. I know what I like, what I don't, what works for me and what doesn't.  Summer is a bit more challenging for me. Summer's got me stumped. Clothes are smaller, more skin is shown, more SPF must be applied (at least in my case) - I honestly think it makes me a little uncomfortable. But I noticed a pattern in my closet - dresses, and lots of them. A good summer dress is like a one pot meal - quick and easy, and all the ingredients are there. Finding pieces that speak for themselves sounds obvious, but I think most of us have a closet of dresses that are just so-so.

Here's a roundup of some amazing dresses that leave the guesswork out of the equation and aren't boring in the least:

All of these would look perfect with greek sandals or a nude pump. Add some dainty gold jewelry (from SeaAndCake, perhaps?) and you're done. Sounds good, right?

Have a great day, folks :)

FIVER: lacy shirts

d57ec35cb968ac4a32401e40b6941b30 Wow, it's been a while since we've had a fiver, huh? Let's reinstate this series with one of my favorite pieces of the summer: lacy shirts.

I actually don't own a lacy top (yet!). I want to buy one so I can go stand on the beach and pretend to stare off into the distance as the lightweight fabric flows in the wind.

These shirts are subtly sexy, delicate, and they look good on everyone. Beach cover up? Yep. Date night tee? Yep. Work appropriate? Sure (just throw a cami under there)!

Here are 5 lust worthy lacy shirts:

I just spent a while trying to name a favorite, and I can't...which one would you wear?
