oscars recap

Hi! What did you all think of Sunday night's academy awards?  Overall I thought the show was great- Ellen was hilarious...

And the fashion was on point! As my mom noticed, there weren't any bad dresses. Which is why this recap is kinda hard. But here are our favorites...

Camila Alves in Gabriela Cadena: Look at that color! I love the cut of this dress and I love the shoulder / cape piece. So demure in the front and the back dips down into a gorgeous V- showing just enough skin (of course no one seemed to get a picture of that!).

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Julia Roberts, Givenchy: Okay, so the critics didn't love this, but the combination of black and lace (love the peek-a-boo lace in the front) is sweet, not too harsh, just right. I'm not a huge fan of peplum, but this works, and again, her hair helps soften the entire look.

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Kerry Washington, Jason Wu: Most perfect pregnant lady in the universe. Only she could wear what is essentially a toga and make it work. The slit in the leg is just the right height, and her hair and that ox blood lip color pull everything together. What is the dress color, dusty mauve? Whatever it is, I think she's the only human who could pull it off.

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Cate Blanchett, Giorgio Armani: This dress made me so happy! I heard the critics on the red carpet say they loved that she was wearing this light beige color with her skin tone, and I rejoiced inside.  Pale on pale is in! My favorite part of the dress are the gorgeous, subtle tulle cap sleeves.  She's a knock-out.

Lupita Nyong'o, Prada: I love this picture. Isn't she flawless? What a dress for her first (of many!) Oscar win. The pleats, the full skirt, the deep V in the front, the beading at the bottom, the headband! Perfection. Chick has worn every color in the rainbow this awards season and each one has you staring at her saying, "She looks amazing in that color!"

What do you think? Do our favorites jive with yours?

FIVER: favorite red carpet moments

Howdy! What did you all do this weekend? On Friday, Raven and I watched the original of the movie Carrie, which neither of us had seen.  WOW.  Sissy Spacek is incredible and I couldn't take my eyes off of her.  Gorgeous and terrifying at the same time.  Saturday night I went out with my friend (who recently moved here!!!) and her boyfriend to Singlecut Beersmiths for their jazz festival!  I have never in my life had a better giant pretzel.  Jalapeño beer cheese washed down with a lager? Boom done.

ANYWAY...onto the matter at hand.  If you've read the "about red" section of this little blog, you would know that I'm fascinated by celebrities.  So it won't surprise you to know that I love a great red carpet moment.  I think I like the pre-show red carpet coverage more than the award shows.  And sometimes I get miffed that the "experts" don't love the same looks as I do.  So here are 5 of my favorite (in no particular order because that's not possible) red carpet moments...

1. Sarah Jessica Parker, 2003 Emmy Awards, Chanel

e6a1ca4776c5dd1a1d49841b42b24b21I mean, I can't not put SJP on here.  I don't care what anyone says about her looks, I don't care how lame anyone thinks Sex and the City is/was; to me, she is absolutely flawless and can do no wrong.  I almost always love her choices on the red carpet, but I remember being so taken aback by this look.  In an interview she said it reminded her of cotton candy, and I loved that.  I don't really have anything else to say...it's just so pretty.

2. January Jones, 2011 Golden Globes, Versace

c33893119099d47ce0c36a08b84433e2I only started watching Mad Men last year, so I remember being totally confused a couple years ago during awards season when this mysterious perfect woman was walking down the red carpet.  She had a bunch of great looks that year, but this one was the obvious favorite (for two reasons...tee hee).  She looks timeless, and where as the structure of the dress could look slutty on someone else, she makes it look totally glamorous here.

3. Kerry Washington, 2013 Emmys, Marchesa

35d356829a744225c00d9de2b64d5dfc

4c742e214d55b8367ddcdbba67ecbc53She looks like a fairy princess here.  I absolutely love her style, and it was really hard for me to choose one red carpet look, because she's always gorgeous, but I feel like this dress is just really special and beautiful.  I love the embroidery, I love the bodice, and I love the back.  I don't even watch Scandal, but she consistently hits it out of the park in the fashion department.

4. Angelina Jolie, 2011 Golden Globes, Versace

ANGELINA-JOLIEAdmittedly, I'm not a huge fan of Angelina Jolie.  I'm not even sure why, to be honest.  But I love this dress and she just looks wonderful.  The color is perfection, and I love long-sleeved, backless dresses.  I think for her this is toned down, and it works.  If I had to steal one dress from my list, this would be it.

5. Miley Cyrus, 2009 Academy Awards, Zuhair Murad

73bd9be3542ade8453c6c4d5dcb2c286I KNOW!  Okay?  I know.  But it's more about the dress here than anything.  I love this dress so much.  I would totally get married in this dress.  It's like a modern day Scarlett O'Hara if Scarlett O'Hara had lots of gay friends and a be-dazzler.  In all seriousness, I love this dress and I was so bummed that no one freaked out about it as much as I did.

christmas-3What do you think of my picks? Agree? Disagree? What are your favorite red carpet moments?

Also, this week we've got a lot of awesome posts coming your way.  So check back, will you? Danke.
