style dictionary: bouclé

Good morning, friends! In an effort to be the most well-rounded, diverse style blog on your blogroll, I am rolling out a new series today: STYLE DICTIONARY! I don't know about you, but half the time when I'm making a purchase, I have no idea what the description on the tag means. What's a henley? What's argyle? You get my drift. Slowly over time I've busied myself with learning these vestial buzzwords, but I realize you may not have done the same. Today I'm going to do my best to take the guess work out of shopping for you all, starting with the word BOUCLÉ.

According to my good friend Merriam Webster, the word is defined as, "an uneven yarn of three plies, one of which forms loops at intervals." It also describes the type of fabric made from the aforementioned yarn. The best way to remember bouclé? CHANEL.

That, right there, is bouclé! That fuzzy texture no doubt made famous by Chanel's jackets, is bouclé! Jackie Kennedy was wearing it on that fateful day in Dallas, and these days you can find it just about anywhere. Here are 3 bouclé pieces I'm loving:

There you have it, friends! If you like this new series, let me know! I'll bring it back again next week.

xoxo,

wedding bells

Good morning, lovely friends! How was your weekend? I spent the majority of mine either drinking beer outside or napping, so basically it was a great one. I also came across these pictures...

Poppy Delevingne and James Cook wed at St. Paul's Church

Poppy Delevingne in Chanel for her wedding in London.

Okay, so a few things. Firstly, I didn't even know that Cara Delevingne  (the model) had a sister, and that is unfortunate for me because she's stunning and I would like to look at pictures of her outfits always. Poppy Delevingne marries James Cook in a lavish wedding ceremony in Knightsbridge, followed by a party held in Kensington Gardens

Secondly, the dress. I wish we had a super close up because I feel like the detail is incredible. Check out the back:

If you can get Chanel to make you a wedding gown from scratch just for you, bravo. The dress isn't my dream wedding dress by a long shot, but I would happily wear it if I could. It's light, it's delicate yet structured…it's pretty much perfect.

Lastly, her hair.

Have you ever seen more perfect waves in your life? Whoever styled it knocked it out of the park, it's effortless and glamourous and I am obsessed.

What do you think of Poppy's gown? Too much for you? Or do you love it?

FIVER: favorite red carpet moments

Howdy! What did you all do this weekend? On Friday, Raven and I watched the original of the movie Carrie, which neither of us had seen.  WOW.  Sissy Spacek is incredible and I couldn't take my eyes off of her.  Gorgeous and terrifying at the same time.  Saturday night I went out with my friend (who recently moved here!!!) and her boyfriend to Singlecut Beersmiths for their jazz festival!  I have never in my life had a better giant pretzel.  Jalapeño beer cheese washed down with a lager? Boom done.

ANYWAY...onto the matter at hand.  If you've read the "about red" section of this little blog, you would know that I'm fascinated by celebrities.  So it won't surprise you to know that I love a great red carpet moment.  I think I like the pre-show red carpet coverage more than the award shows.  And sometimes I get miffed that the "experts" don't love the same looks as I do.  So here are 5 of my favorite (in no particular order because that's not possible) red carpet moments...

1. Sarah Jessica Parker, 2003 Emmy Awards, Chanel

e6a1ca4776c5dd1a1d49841b42b24b21I mean, I can't not put SJP on here.  I don't care what anyone says about her looks, I don't care how lame anyone thinks Sex and the City is/was; to me, she is absolutely flawless and can do no wrong.  I almost always love her choices on the red carpet, but I remember being so taken aback by this look.  In an interview she said it reminded her of cotton candy, and I loved that.  I don't really have anything else to say...it's just so pretty.

2. January Jones, 2011 Golden Globes, Versace

c33893119099d47ce0c36a08b84433e2I only started watching Mad Men last year, so I remember being totally confused a couple years ago during awards season when this mysterious perfect woman was walking down the red carpet.  She had a bunch of great looks that year, but this one was the obvious favorite (for two reasons...tee hee).  She looks timeless, and where as the structure of the dress could look slutty on someone else, she makes it look totally glamorous here.

3. Kerry Washington, 2013 Emmys, Marchesa

35d356829a744225c00d9de2b64d5dfc

4c742e214d55b8367ddcdbba67ecbc53She looks like a fairy princess here.  I absolutely love her style, and it was really hard for me to choose one red carpet look, because she's always gorgeous, but I feel like this dress is just really special and beautiful.  I love the embroidery, I love the bodice, and I love the back.  I don't even watch Scandal, but she consistently hits it out of the park in the fashion department.

4. Angelina Jolie, 2011 Golden Globes, Versace

ANGELINA-JOLIEAdmittedly, I'm not a huge fan of Angelina Jolie.  I'm not even sure why, to be honest.  But I love this dress and she just looks wonderful.  The color is perfection, and I love long-sleeved, backless dresses.  I think for her this is toned down, and it works.  If I had to steal one dress from my list, this would be it.

5. Miley Cyrus, 2009 Academy Awards, Zuhair Murad

73bd9be3542ade8453c6c4d5dcb2c286I KNOW!  Okay?  I know.  But it's more about the dress here than anything.  I love this dress so much.  I would totally get married in this dress.  It's like a modern day Scarlett O'Hara if Scarlett O'Hara had lots of gay friends and a be-dazzler.  In all seriousness, I love this dress and I was so bummed that no one freaked out about it as much as I did.

christmas-3What do you think of my picks? Agree? Disagree? What are your favorite red carpet moments?

Also, this week we've got a lot of awesome posts coming your way.  So check back, will you? Danke.
