memorial day at the beach

Hi there! Back to reality and work today, but wanted to share some snaps from our beach weekend. Hope you had a wonderful one!

Unfortunately, the only picture I managed to get of myself is that shadowy self portrait you see above - and I got zero pictures of me and Raven. But we had a blast, and it was so great to spend time with family and get out into the sun.

That's all I've got for you today.

style stories: my favorite things

Hi friends! Even though it's a gloomy Monday, I feel great after a very exciting weekend. My best friend got engaged and turned 30, the weather was perfect, and did you see the finale of Mad Men last night? No spoilers here, I'll just say I can't believe it's over! I'm ready to take on the week and I wanted to continue with the style stories series I started a couple weeks ago. If you're a regular around these parts, you probably know my style pretty well, what I like and don't like in general, and so on. But I thought it would be fun to lay everything out here for you guys, kind of like a questionnaire. So here goes! Describe Your Style: I always want to look girly and like a dude at the same time.

Favorite Retailer: Net-A-Porter for their high end inventory, Shopbop for their incredible sales and customer service, ASOS for their affordable and look alike designer (read: knock off) pieces.

Favorite Article of Clothing: Currently, my "leather" jacket.

Favorite Go-to Accessory: A pendant necklace.

Favorite lip color: Heat Wave by Nars.

Style Icon: Without a doubt, my sister Liz. I don't ask many people for fashion advice (though I should, because everyone's got something to add), but I trust my sister implicitly when it comes to style and always want her opinion. When I got my wedding dress, I had my mom and 3 of my closest friends there to weigh in. It wasn't until I sent my sister a picture and got a thumbs up that I felt like I had really made the right decision. I spend my days researching fashion, I'm on every website first thing looking at new arrivals, and my sister can always one up me. She's a force and hands down she is my lifetime style icon.

Best Sale Purchase: An Alexander Wang bag at half price!

Most Coveted Item on my Wishlist: Probably a Cartier love bracelet or a vintage Rolex. Neither will be happening anytime soon (if ever).

Most Coveted Item in my Closet: Mackage Coat.

Favorite Beauty Product: Bronzer!

First Big Fashion Purchase: A Christian Dior saddle bag (I was 15 and saved up all summer to buy it for I think $150).'

Best Piece of Fashion Advice: I never my my maternal Grandmother Grace, but she taught my Mom to put on every piece of jewelry she wanted to wear and then take off two pieces before leaving the house. Maybe her accessory minimalism rubbed off on me?

Favorite Thing About Fashion: The outside doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. However, if how you look on the outside is a reflection of your soul and makes you feel good, I see nothing wrong with caring about it! I always dress up on days when I'm in a bad mood because it helps me physically step into a positive mindset.

I'd love to hear from you guys! What's your favorite thing about fashion? Who is your style icon? What's the item at the top of your wishlist? Please leave a note in the comments because I am a CURIOUS!

style stories: how i got here.

View More: http://ashley-caroline.pass.us/littleredswellbranding I've had just about every career path that I can think of, at this point. When I was a little girl, I wanted to grow up and be just like my father. When I got to high school and realized that math and science were not my strong points, but that I loved performing, I decided I wanted to be an actress. For the next 10 years, that was my focus. When I graduated from college, however, I realized that the life I had planned out in my head did not revolve around the transient lifestyle of a successful actor. I loved my restaurant job, and threw myself into that, which evolved into an event planning job. And on and on I went, until I asked myself a really important question: what do I spent my free time doing?

This was 2010, just after having moved into a new apartment and at the beginning of my relationship with Raven. I was at the very beginning of what would be 2 really bad (but wonderful in many ways) years, filled with anxiety and lots and lots of pain. I completely isolated myself and spent the majority of my time at home, reading blogs, dreaming up outfits and decorating schemes, fantasizing about being anywhere except where I was. I felt completely creatively drained. I would go to work, come home, sit on the couch on my computer, go to sleep, wake up and do it all again.

Ever present was the aforementioned question: what do I spend my time doing? Slowly but surely, over the next two years, I began to focus more on what I did in my free time; dreaming about style, helping friends with their outfits, and reading blogs. Out of that LRW was born, and while some people may wonder how I randomly ended up working as a stylist (or maybe just my paranoid brain is telling me that they're wondering), when I look back at little Allie, the signs of my fate were clear.

Age 2: Instead of following my father around his office, I accost the mothers in the waiting room. I say things like "I like your neck-a-lace" and "I love your eyeshadow." I also occasionally go through their purses.

Age 3: I wear my bathing suit as well as 15 necklaces to the beach. I bring along a purse as well. My family affectionately calls me Mr. T. I do not find this funny.

Age 4: I ask my mother, "When you die, can I have your wallet?"

Age 5: My mother buys me a romper with strawberries on it. I call it my "strawberry dress" and insist on wearing it constantly.

Age 10: The summer before 6th grade, my mother takes me back to school shopping. Back in my room, I lay out each piece we bought, then write down in my journal all of the combinations I can make with them.

Age 13: My life revolves around the purchase of a Tiffany necklace and a Kate Spade purse. I beg my parents for both (they eventually relent).

Age 16: I find my prom dress at the BCBG outlet. I decide I'll wear it with a smoky eye, a sleek bun, and a single flower. I still love the look to this day!

Age 20: I scour celebrity gossip mags and discover two LA boutiques - Kitson and Intuition. I spend a great amount of time figuring out how I will afford true religion jeans.

Age 23: I buy (to my knowledge) my first ever plaid shirt. A love affair begins.

Age 25: I decide to put all my creative energy into my everyday outfits. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Age 28: LRW is born!

I know it's a bit of a self indulgent post, but I've been thinking a lot lately about starting this series - style stories - where I explore how I got here and maybe even share posts by some of you! So, I'd love to hear - how did you discover your style? What childhood memories do you have about clothing or style?

Happy Monday, friends!

weekend recap

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Friends, good morning! Yesterday was an unintentional absence - we had no internet - so I apologize for leaving you guys hanging. Honestly, though, it was nice to be forced to recharge after the weekend, which was filled to the brim with wedding related errands.

Bright and early Friday morning, Raven, Charlie and I headed up to Madison, CT, which is the home base of Jennie Fresa and her team. It was a rainy morning and I happily nursed some green tea while Tricia and I got to work on my face. In case you need a refresher, here's what I've been thinking for makeup, and here's the final result:

I told Tricia I wanted super rosy cheeks, a wee cat eye, razor sharp brows and no pores (ha!). I was so pleased with the result and cannot recommend Tricia from Jennie Fresa enough!

The rest of the weekend was filled with meal after meal (after meal) - our wedding tasting, trying out different spots for the rehearsal dinner, our cake tasting - definitely came home with my pants fitting a bit more snug than usual. But! The menu is done, the rehearsal dinner plans are underway, we have a cake, and we're getting married! Whew!

All in all the weekend was a fantastic retreat in CT, one of our favorite spots on earth...

Shit is getting real my friends!!
