weds-day: wedding themes

Friends, it has been a busy week for me thus far. Sunday evening my sister and Mom came into town and we spent most of Monday poking around shops, eating, and capped the day off with Hamilton on Broadway. Which is one of the best pieces of theater I have ever seen. Any way I try to describe it will sound ineloquent so I'll just say: go see it. It is one of those shows with true staying power, and the cast is absolutely brilliant. Okay, now that that PSA is out of the way, let's catch up on this wedding that is happening in 74 days (not that I am counting). When we got engaged, we never had a conversation where we agreed on wedding colors. I dreamt up a loose theme I dubbed "The Fox and The Raven," ran it by Raven, who approved it / loved the idea, and then we began to piece together the look.

Here's the original mood board I showed you all. And here's an updated version based on what is actually happening:

Watercolor, sprinkles, dark pinks and neon green, vintage touches, fox decor, moody florals, evergreen trees and topiaries. These are a few of my favorite things.

Rather than having a complete, fleshed out theme and checking items off of a master list, our vision for the day have evolved based on what vendors we were able to book, decor we could find in our price range, and boring logistical things like that. Sure, ideally we'd plan out the entire day and make decisions based on what is aesthetically pleasing, (rather than aesthetically pleasing and also affordable). Ideally, we'd also move into a house with a white picket fence and have 2.5 kids before I turn 34. But life doesn't happen that way...and neither should your wedding.

Be flexible with your vision for the big day; let it evolve and learn to make well thought out substitutions for must-have items. I'm so pumped for November 7th!

wedding wednesday, part 1

Morning, friends! There's only one more sleep till Christmas! I am so excited to celebrate - Raven and Charlie get in in a few hours and there's going to be lots of holiday cheer happening in the next few days. I had a great night's sleep and feel so much better today, so I thought I would kick off a new series - Wedding Wednesday! I am totally open to names, here, for this series, but for posterity, let's call it what it is for now. Even though Raven and I have only been engaged for a week, we've been brainstorming ideas for our wedding since we designed my ring. I'm excited to say we have a date, a venue and more importantly (to me), a wedding planner! I've been a fan of Melissa McNeeley's work for years, and I was thrilled when she said she'd work with us for our big day. Two seconds into my first phone call with her, she completely understood our vision. Raven and I love the outdoors and the fall and winter seasons, so a cozy November wedding by a lake in Connecticut is perfect for us. I've put together a moodboard from my Pinterest page so you can get an idea of what we're thinking:

Yup, you guessed it! Lots of plaid, lots of dark, moody colors, and we are trying our hardest to make the inside look like the Connecticut woods. Oh, and we are thrilled and HONORED to be having Ashley Caroline Photography photograph our wedding (basically, we planned our date around her availability)! Needless to say we are so excited to start this planning process. What do you guys think??
