weds-day, part 8: the maids

A few years ago when my friend Courtney was getting married, she and I talked about different dresses for each bridesmaid. Do you remember when Amsale first became well known? It was (and still is) really popular to outfit ones bridesmaids in different colors / cuts or materials of her incredible dresses. Ever since then, I've always known that I'd like all my bridesmaids to wear different dresses that suit them and fit their body type. And now that it's really happening, I have even less of a pull for them all to look a certain way. The truth is, they are 6 gorgeous ladies, and 1 handsome, dapper man, and they will look beautiful in anything.

I'm abandoning any bridesmaid rules and I'm helping pick dresses that fit each lady's body type and her budget. I've flirted with a color palatte and I've come up with: navy, grey and black. But then, while sourcing some dresses for the girls, gold / brass snuck in there too. So we shall have to see what the final picks are. I'm trying to focus less on everyone "matching" and more on everyone looking their best.

style dictionary: jacquard

Happy (holiday) Monday, friends! There's nothing better than a long weekend, am I right? We spent ours huddled up on the couch with large glasses of wine; the cold here is intense. It's a sweltering 5 degrees right now! Whether or not you're working, there's always room to expand your knowledge of style and clothing, which, I hope, is why you stopped by today! Last week's style dictionary post was the most popular post of the week, which tickles me, so we're going to continue our education with today's word: JACQUARD.

Now, my good friend Merriam Webster defines jacquard as "a fabric of intricate variegated weave or pattern," but that's a little general for me.

When I think of jacquard, I think of a boxy, honeycomb type fabric. Raised and textured, like this:

By the way, this was happening to the left of that photo:

He loves to nap on the heater, go figure. Anyway, ASOS consistently does jacquard really well, at an affordable price with great quality. Which, if you're wanting to experiment with this fun pattern, is a great way to go:

// blazer // pj's // crop top, skirt //

My favorite way to wear jacquard is in a top or jacket, but here I love the luxe jammies (great for the wedding night, maybe??), as well as a crop top set worthy of Taylor Swift.

How do you feel about jacquard? (PS- DON'T FORGET ASOS IS OFFERING 20% OFF WITH CODE PREZDAY20)

9 pieces i'm coveting

With our wedding on the books, I've had to seriously curb my spending. Which means...I haven't been spending at all. For someone whose workday consists of scouring the internet for clothing, it's a challenge for me to pass by beautiful pieces. One huge positive is that my style has taken a serious reality check. Anything that might be coming home with me is going to be thoroughly audited to make sure it's worth the dough. So, a lot more thought has been going into every piece I've got my eye on lately.

luxe sweatpants

Here's what:

1. A beautiful coat. I already have a wonderfully functional down coat, but it does stifle my style a bit, so I've been dreaming about a lovely woolen button down or a dreamy, unique piece. Bonus points for faux fur. // one // two // three //

2. Luxurious sweatpants. Since I work from home, I spend most of my days in comfy clothes, but my Muhlenberg sweatpants could use a serious upgrade. I've got my eyes fixed hard on these cashmere pants from Rag & Bone. // one // two // three //

3. A new bag. When I was in high school, my mom would take each of my paychecks and deposit them in a bank account whose purpose was money for college living expenses (good call, Mom!). However, she always let me take a couple hundred dollars out to buy myself a special treat at the end of the summer. Every year, I bought a handbag. To this day, I am always, and I mean always, coveting a new bag. It's my belief that bags are worth the investment, and consigning designer bags is a wonderful thing. My favorite resale site is Tradesy, and Cuyana's bags are so affordable and so well made. // one // two // three //

Have a lovely Thursday, friends!

style dictionary: bouclé

Good morning, friends! In an effort to be the most well-rounded, diverse style blog on your blogroll, I am rolling out a new series today: STYLE DICTIONARY! I don't know about you, but half the time when I'm making a purchase, I have no idea what the description on the tag means. What's a henley? What's argyle? You get my drift. Slowly over time I've busied myself with learning these vestial buzzwords, but I realize you may not have done the same. Today I'm going to do my best to take the guess work out of shopping for you all, starting with the word BOUCLÉ.

According to my good friend Merriam Webster, the word is defined as, "an uneven yarn of three plies, one of which forms loops at intervals." It also describes the type of fabric made from the aforementioned yarn. The best way to remember bouclé? CHANEL.

That, right there, is bouclé! That fuzzy texture no doubt made famous by Chanel's jackets, is bouclé! Jackie Kennedy was wearing it on that fateful day in Dallas, and these days you can find it just about anywhere. Here are 3 bouclé pieces I'm loving:

// yellow coat // scarf // sneakers //

There you have it, friends! If you like this new series, let me know! I'll bring it back again next week.

shut your mouth

One of my goals since coming back from Alt Summit is for LRW to have more amazing photography for you guys to look at - whether that be my own or someone else's. As luck would have it, Julia is one of my favorite photographers and was also more than game to snap some pictures. Last Friday, armed with stories of wedding planning and not much else in the way of outerwear, we ventured out in Park Slope, Brooklyn to bring you all something pretty to look at. Sometimes, to create beautiful stuff, you have to give your insecurities the what for:

If you're loving these bracelets as much as I am (they're engraved with NYC's coordinates!), never fear! I'll be doing a separate, more in detail post on my collaboration with Samantha Faye!
