picture of the week [11]

d0a713087611b333d428709e9cf0399f We're back! Well, sort of. Raven and I landed at 9pm last night and are headed out at 8am this morning for my family's beach house in Old Lyme, CT. Total 360 we're doing, in the best way. Charlie is going to meet his furry cousin, Teddy, this weekend, and we're anxious to see how they get along and are hopeful they'll be romping in the creek at some point! I have so much to share with you guys (pictures, etc from CR) but that will have to wait until Monday. I couldn't resist popping in and sharing my favorite links from this week. Hope you have a fantastic weekend planned, see you Monday! xo

I started reading this over vacation and I'm in love.

This is the creamiest lipstick ever - my new favorite.

ASOS is having a HUGE sale right now! NBD, I bought this.

What do you all think of the new app Spring? I'm on the fence so far.

Name your price. Really.

Jenna Lyons' office is perfection.

In love with my girl Ashley's new blog post. I want to blow up one of these photos and hang it in my living room!

Bye for now :)

picture of the week [10]

97d4378d09a8d18d5b387da670f7fd46 This week inadvertently turned into travel week, so I had to finish it up with a beautiful picture of Costa Rica! Raven and I are getting so excited for the trip, it's all we've been talking about. Today, I'm getting a gel manicure at this place, which my friend recommended. Any fun ideas for the manicure?  I haven't decided whether or not I'll be posting next week, but I'll be sure to Instagram some pictures, so please follow along! What are you up to this weekend? I hope you have a wonderful one, and here are a few of my favorite links this week:

Affordable summer wines.

Kerry Washington is perfect.

Another shopping app. Hmm.

Advice for getting paid as a creative.

How sexy is this dress? (eco friendly clothing line!)

A series of photographs depicting anxiety. I thought this was awesome.

I want to get my hands on a few of these tees.

How to buy art.

xoxo!

the ultimate packing list

As I've mentioned, Raven and I leave for Costa Rica on SUNDAY! We are so excited, especially with what was a very scary passport snafu behind us! In deciding what to pack for this trip, I wanted to reduce the pieces I bring and just bring better things, and I wanted to share my list with you!

Hope you enjoy!

1. Cozy Workout Wear - Raven and I plan on taking a hike and attending yoga class, so I'm bringing a workout shirt and pants with me. My feet always get cold on planes, so I'll wear my sneaks during the flight.

2. Classic every day outfits - I plan on spending 95% of the trip in my bathing suit, but for lunches / exploring, etc, I'm bringing one classic tee / one graphic tee, and 2 pairs of jean shorts. Bandana is for sunny days / sweaty brow / looking good in general.

3. I wish I could pack this little guy. He hopped up while I was shooting this and I didn't have the heart to make him get down.

4. Turkish Towel - I'm so excited about bringing this to the pool and the beach, and will be using it to keep warm on the plane!

5. Tieks! Paramount for comfort, I'll put these on when we land / where them around the resort. They're great for walking and look how nicely they fold up!

6. Bikini - I only have one, so this year I sprang and purchased one by Norma Kamali, which is the epitome of classic, and is super flattering.

7. Sandals - I'm sure I'll dress up for dinner one night, and I'll wear these when I do. Aren't they the perfect summer sandal? (not pictured- Birks!)

8. Fancy Dinner Outfit - I'm on the fence as to whether or not I bring a dress on this trip. These flowy pants from target and simple backless tank would be the perfect amount of sexy, but part of me wants to bring a dress. We'll see!

9. Unmentionables - I'm bringing one nude strapless, one lacy bralette, and the best thongs. I put them all in a zippered pouch for travel, then put the dirty pairs back in the pouch over the course of the trip.

Aside from the above, I'll be bringing the following:

- Sunblock

- Bronzer

- Eyeliner

- Creamy Lipstick

- Moroccan Oil

- Antibiotics, Benadryl and Tylenol (I'm insane but you never know!)

- Hand Sanitizer

- Snacks to bring to the beach

I'm so excited! Oh, and I dyed my hair...check it out!

It's definitely crazy bright and will take some getting used to but I love it. What do you think?

Happy Thursday! xoxo

vacation's all i ever wanted

beachbabe

dress // hat // tote // sandals // scarf

This weather is killin' me! Actually, it's kind of cozy, and it's making me so thankful that Raven are escaping to warmer climes on Sunday. I can't stop thinking about our upcoming trip, and as I was wandering the web this morning, mentally making note of all the cute pieces I don't have for my trip, I realized it's been a while since I put together a moodboard for you all!

Doesn't this dress just look like a big hug? It's one of those multi-use items in your suitcase; from cover up to dinner dress, it's perfect (also let's be honest - nightgown). I'm not a fan of hats at the beach, which is silly because I'm essentially allergic to the sun, but I thought this hat was different in the sweetest way.

Tell me, what are your vacation wishes? I'll be back tomorrow with my packing list and tips...looking forward to seeing you then!

xoxo

she got me workin' workin' day and night

Happy Monday! How is your week looking?  Busy?

Because if that's the only word you're going to use to describe your week, I will be forced to believe that you're some sort of robot.

too-busy-people-workplace-ecard-someecards

My good friend recently sent me this article (click for link) and it made me think. I'm not sure about other cities, but here in New York, being "busy" is a status. It's a rite of passage - it's almost something to brag about. If you're busy, you're important.

That is troublesome to me. Though, let me start by staying that I of course fall prey to this expression as well. I think, if we dig deep, we all do. But though my weeks are busy - they are also a lot of other things (moments, emotions, experiences, etc.), too.  Last week I spent time with my best friend, Raven and I had an interesting discussion on a dinner date, I cried over frivolous and non-frivolous things alike, I texted with my sister in law...you get the picture.

So why do we feel the need to place so much importance on the word busy? Since when did it become a bad thing to have a clear schedule and free time?

I know all about free time in my line of of work. Building a business from the ground up is challenging and complicated and sometimes the phone just isn't ringing. I've had weeks where I barely put in 5 hours of work - and months where I wouldn't have a day off. It's part of the job, but I noticed something. When I was having a slow period, I was consumed with guilt (which, by the way, does absolutely nothing but ruin your mindset and set you up for failure). I felt like a LOSER. Even though I logically knew that this was all part of the growing pains of starting a new career.

In New York, it's an unspoken rule that work comes first, that we GO GO GO till we drop, answer every phone call and email immediately, and check our personal lives at the door. We're BUSY, so we don't have time to sit by the river and just think. We're BUSY, we can't chat on the phone for an hour with our best friend who lives in LA. We're BUSY, the fact that our cousin is getting married is just an inconvenience!

You know we're not that busy, right? Just like the Times article mentions, those who have to qualify their state of busy, usually have time to spare. I had a full day of work the other day, and when I got home I was tired. I sat down to write this post and a little thought popped into my head: "I don't have TIME to write this!"

But I do have time - we all have time. We just have to choose it.

Take the word busy out of your vocabulary. We all work, we all have to make that money! We all have 40-60 (or more!) hours of our lives taken up every week by our jobs. Most of my friends work full time AND audition all week, too! I don't know how they do it, and most of them still manage to make it out to social gatherings and answer texts and emails. Everyone is busy...start by saying how you really are...tired, sad, awesome, horny, pissed, you get the idea. What an interesting conversation you'll have!

Acknowledge that it's not a bad thing to have free time.  Contrary to my comment above, we are not robots. We need to eat, sleep, sit, laugh, take a break and go on vacation. According to this article, all European countries have 4 paid weeks of vacation BY LAW! Can you imagine?  I think of all the workaholics in this city and I see a lot of people letting their hair down (to put it lightly) if that were the law here! Nevertheless, even if you just have a weekend at home with nothing on the schedule - that's okay! A little "me" time is necessary. Can you say Girls marathon?

tumblr_m3a9yiAZp51qbk9s5o4_250

Perhaps, the less time we spend complaining about how little free time we have, the more time will open up for us to actually enjoy that phone call, bubble bath, baby shower, or guilt free night on the couch (which, by the way, is what I did basically all weekend).

Do you find yourself using the word busy as an excuse?  How do you use your time off to recharge?
